However, impedance matching techniques for microstrip patch antennas vary from other antenna geometries. When designing the circuit boards for these communications systems, it is often advantageous or necessary to utilize low profile microstrip antennas-like a small loop antenna structure. This is especially true for RF systems with high-speed boards where the received signal strength may be on the order of thousandths of a volt and noise may be a problem. While these parameters are also important for nearby communication, impedance matching is another major consideration. Many of these systems utilize satellite communications and the cloud as an intermediary, while others use line-of-sight wireless or cabling for interconnection.įor long-range communications, parameters such as path loss, receiver antenna height (or length) and bandwidth are critical design considerations.
